Intentionality. "The act of being deliberate or purposive."
Currently, I play League of Legends as a means of practicing intentionality. It is not my goal to rank up; I'm not even playing ranked. This is normals. It's not my goal to win the game, either.
Each game, I have one simple aim: "Win, or at least don't feed, my lane." That's it. That's all. Winning or losing the match has no bearing.
I also use this time to relax, center myself, renew my mindset, enjoy some music.
Play for mastery, not victory. I am not the first person in the world to arrive at this mindset. Countless monks and philosophers in ages before me have lived it, discussed it, written about it. But I can say that once you arrive at the notion yourself—"play for mastery, not victory"—and you truly are detached from all things except mastery, the difference is life changing in a way I cannot begin to describe. You must live this to know this. It's my hope to teach this to anybody who truly wants to learn it. Ask away, if you have questions.
